Ditto brings AI-powered matchmaking to college campuses through iMessage with Photon

Ditto, the AI matchmaker that sends college students on real dates, runs on iMessage through Photon Spectrum. Students text a number, tell Ditto who they are, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. get one match with a planned date: a time, a place, and a person. No swiping, no app, no profile grid. Just a text.
Why a dating agent belongs in iMessage
Dating already happens in your messages. The "what are you doing Friday?" The screenshot sent to the group chat for a second opinion. The friend who texts "you have to meet my roommate." Dating apps pulled all of that into a separate interface built around endless swiping.
As CTO Eric Liu states, “Ditto enables 200k+ college students to go on date effortlessly without swiping.”
Ditto pulls it back to where it started: a conversation.
That is exactly why a dating agent is hard to put there.
iMessage was not built for agents. The common workaround is to bridge it from a personal Mac that has to stay awake and online, sending messages from someone's own number. That's fine for a side project. It isn't fine for a product that 205,000+ students trust with who they are and who they want to meet. A matchmaker needs a dedicated line, continuous uptime, the ability to handle every user getting a match at the same minute, and a clean separation between the agent and any one person's device. The bridge approach gives you none of that reliably.
Ditto makes dating feel like texting a friend who knows everyone.
Photon makes that possible inside iMessage.
How Photon brings Ditto to iMessage
Ditto chose iMessage via Photon as its only channel, connected to a Photon-managed iMessage line, and shipped. From the student's side, there's nothing to install. You text a number, and Ditto takes it from there. Here's what that looks like in practice.
Onboarding is a conversation, not a form. A student texts Ditto a code. Ditto introduces itself and asks the basics, then the questions that matter: what you care about, how you spend a free Saturday, what a good first date feels like. Ditto matches on the values underneath interests, not on shared hobbies, and it learns them the way a friend would: by talking.
Wednesday, 7 p.m. Every week, Ditto sends each student one match with a planned date: when, where, and who, at a spot near campus. One proposal at a time, so the decision is simple. Yes or no.
The date actually happens. Ditto doesn't hand off a profile and hope. It plans the date and people show up. About 20% of matches turn into real dates.
The debrief makes the next one better. After the date, Ditto checks in over text. How did it go? What clicked, what didn't? That feedback goes straight into the next week's match.
Referrals feel natural. Roughly a quarter of Ditto's growth comes from students bringing in friends. When the product is a phone number, sharing it is just a text.
Every one of these is a normal iMessage conversation. The difference is that the contact on the other end is actually setting you up.

Native iMessage behavior that Photon provides
With Photon, Ditto behaves like a native iMessage contact, with RCS and SMS fallback when needed.
Blue bubbles from a dedicated line. Ditto shows up as a real contact, not a green-bubble shortcode or a stranger's personal number.
Typing indicators show when Ditto is thinking about your answer, which keeps the conversation feeling human.
Images let students send photos, and let Ditto send date details and venue info in the thread.
Native iMessage voice notes let students answer the personal questions out loud when typing feels like filling out a form.
Burst-scale delivery keeps the weekly drop on time. When Ditto sends matches at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, every one arrives at 7 p.m.

Agents should live where people already are
Photon is built on a simple belief: agents should live in the interfaces where people already are. For a generation that already runs its social life through group chats and blue bubbles, that interface is iMessage. And the most useful thing an agent can do there is get you off your phone and into the real world.
Ditto is a clear example of what that unlocks: not a smarter dating app, but a matchmaker you can text, one that plans the date and gets two people in the same room. We're proud to be the iMessage layer behind it, and we're actively partnering with more founders and builders bringing agents to the channels people use every day.
