> ## Agent Instructions
> Use Stable documentation by default. Honor an explicit Beta request or a URL under /docs/beta/. If the requested version conflicts with the installed CLI package or API origin, clarify the target before writing integration code.
> Pages under /docs/beta/ document Beta; other product pages document Stable. Keep the CLI package, commands, API origin, and credentials within the selected version. State the documentation version in your answer.
> For MCP search, always pass version: Stable or version: Beta. Unfiltered search mixes both versions. For filesystem reads, keep Beta queries under /beta/ and exclude /beta/ from Stable queries; discover paths before reading them.
> The public docs base is https://photon.codes/docs. Convert MCP page paths to public URLs under that base, preserving /beta/ when present. Read https://photon.codes/docs/skill.md for version selection and https://photon.codes/docs/llms.txt for the version indexes.

# Payment method

> Manage the payment card on file for your Photon organization.

The organization payment method is the card Photon charges. It is separate
from the plans, subscriptions, and usage under
[project billing](/docs/beta/cli/projects/billing). It uses the
[selected organization](/docs/beta/cli/organizations#select-an-organization).

[Browse the automatic command reference](/docs/beta/cli/reference/index).

## Check the card on file

```sh theme={null}
photon org billing payment-method status
```

```json theme={null}
{"payment":{"cardOnFile":true,"paymentMethod":{"brand":"visa","expiresMonth":12,"expiresYear":2028,"last4":"4242"}}}
```

`paymentMethod` is `null` when no card is stored, or when the response carries
no display metadata. Processor identifiers, full card numbers, and security
codes are never exposed.

## Add or replace a card

`setup` creates a hosted HTTPS checkout and opens it in your browser:

```sh theme={null}
photon org billing payment-method setup
photon org billing payment-method setup --no-browser
```

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Browser opens">
    ```json theme={null}
    {"checkout":{"opened":true}}
    ```

    The capability URL is not printed, because it is a bearer credential for
    the checkout session.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="--no-browser">
    ```json theme={null}
    {"checkout":{"opened":false,"checkoutUrl":"https://..."}}
    ```

    You get the same shape if the browser fails to launch, so you can open the
    URL yourself.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Invalid or non-HTTPS checkout URLs are rejected before they are opened or
displayed.

<Note>
  This command replaced `photon account billing payment`, which now only
  points here.
